Some weddings last an afternoon. Yours lasted three days.
Three days in eastern Sicily, with Etna on one side and the sea on the other, at a stone villa from 1883 called Casa La Carrubazza. Three days of oranges and coral, of records spinning on the lawn, of music that had been yours for years before it ever gave its name to a table.
What follows isn't a recap. It's the three days, told the way we lived them with you, out of order, the way you remember a great party the morning after: not minute by minute, but moment by moment.
It opened by the water. Lido Aldebaran, the evening before everything. A long table on the terrace, the moon laying a line across the sea, glasses going round before anyone had to behave.
No vows yet, no rings. Just the people you love finding each other in the blue hour, on an island most of them had crossed a continent to reach.
Ancora nessuna promessa, nessun anello.
The wedding day started slow and loud at the same time. Róisín in pyjamas printed with Sicilian oranges, the room full of the people who loved you most, sisters and bridesmaids and the friends who'd known you longest, laughter everywhere and a bottle going round before noon. On a table, a hand-stitched handkerchief read Keep Your Shit Together, which tells you everything about how this family does tenderness: sideways, with a joke, and meaning every word.
Then the quieter beats. The veil. The dress. Ken against a stone wall, knotting a peach tie. And a father taking his daughter's hands before the world could.
The ceremony happened outdoors, on lava stone softened with hydrangeas and coral roses, the guests fanning themselves under the olive trees. It wasn't run by a stranger in a robe. It was your people, in panama hats and flowered shirts, reading the words that mattered.
Candles were lit, one flame passing to the next. Your hands were tied together with coloured ribbon, which is the oldest way there is to say the obvious. And before any of it, there was the man waiting at the front, the one a friend summed up like this:
And then the line that turned a wedding into a party:
You've already seen this one, the cut that lit up your phones on Instagram. The one where the arancino-versus-arancina debate gets settled, for good, by a bride from Dublin in three syllables and a smile. Watch it again here, in better company: it's the door into the rest of the weekend.
Dinner came at the water's edge, the tables named after songs (Springsteen, the Sugababes, Thin Lizzy), the seating chart pinned to vinyl, disco balls hidden in the coral flowers. This is where the theme of the whole weekend stopped being subtle: you don't just like music, you live inside it.
The cake was cut, the napkins went up, and somewhere near 2am, with Etna watching from the dark, the night tipped over into something nobody had any intention of stopping. Róisín singing at the top of her lungs in her wedding dress, Ken dancing and laughing beside her.
And then, because three days, there was a day after. The pool below the villa, Etna holding up the sky, inflatable lemons and oranges on the water, a wood-fired oven turning out pizza, Róisín on Ken's shoulders mid-throw. Ken found the drums. Of course he did.
By night the lawn became a stage. A band, a microphone that kept getting passed around, and the two of you up front, singing. Not for a camera, not for a tradition, just because the weekend wasn't ready to end, and neither were you.
Everything so far has been fragments, the way memory actually keeps a weekend. Here it is whole.
This is the one you haven't seen. Sixteen minutes of three days, in the order we felt them rather than the order they happened. Turn it up. A sage once put it best, lying in a garden under a stormy sky:
Róisín and Ken,
Three days, and not one of them spent performing. From the first pyjama-clad morning to the last song at 2am, you were exactly yourselves, loud, kind, funny, in love, and all we had to do was keep up. A wedding tells you who a couple really is; yours told us loudly, and we loved every minute of listening.
Thank you for letting us stand that close to it. Filming and photographing you didn't feel like work; it felt like being handed the best seat at the best party of the year. Keep the music on.
Róisín e Ken,
Tre giorni, e nemmeno uno passato a recitare.
